Artist Mark Richards will issue 50 limited edition maquettes of the Ernest Shackleton statue unveiled in Athy, Co. Kildare on 30th August 2016.
Commissioned by Kildare County Council as part of its ‘Decade of Commemorations’, and unveiled a century to the day since Ernest Shackleton rescued the crew of the Endurance from the Antarctic, the Athy statue stands eternally facing south. These striking limited edition maquettes are cast in bronze; each weighs 5.5 kg and is 30 H x 17 W x 14 D cm. All proceeds from the sale of the maquettes will go to the Athy Heritage Centre-Museum, which houses the only permanent exhibition devoted to Ernest Shackleton.
