About

I’m a writer and lecturer on Irish literature and cultural history. I hold an MA from the University of York and a PhD from Trinity College Dublin, where I was an IRCHSS Post-Doctoral Research Fellow.

I’ve published a book on Flann O’Brien with Cork University Press and co-edited a collection of essays on Irish modernism for Peter Lang. My essays and articles have appeared in The Dublin Review, The Irish Times, New Welsh Review, The Dublin Review of Books, and many academic journals and books. I’ve also contributed to documentaries and arts programmes broadcast by RTÉ, BBC Radio 4, Newstalk and Dublin City FM.

I’m currently researching Irish literary censorship. In the past I’ve also written about the Irish blasphemy law,  the art of the Paris Review interview, the plays of Bernard Shaw and the febrile imagination of Mary Whitehouse, among many other things. In the education field I’ve designed resources for OSCAIL (DCU) and the Abbey Theatre, and programmed two conferences at Trinity College Dublin.
